The Hand Off

The accidental due linked up through a hand-off of a Confession demo. New to the Arizona scene, Confession was looking for some local artists to network with and gain some ground in his new residence. An artist seemingly took a pass at the option to collaborate and handed the demo to Coach, a lyricist/producer with a team of artists behind him. The two inadvertently crossed paths in a chance meeting that would spawn an ongoing frenzy of musical efforts pushing themselves passed previous limits reached.

Approaching Confession with an honesty that others may find suffocating, Coach expressed his opinion of the demo with a straightforward, "I like your sound, but...". A CD of Coach's music exchanged hands to get an idea of what the other side was accomplishing. The two immediately had a connection through their shared love for the art form and a recording session was soon to follow.

The First Sessions

The two budding artists begain their first recording sessions shortly after meeting. Coach provided the beat (and death defying Sound FX that almost ended the dynasty before it started), Confession on lyrics. The instrumental was a fresh new sound that inspired Confession to get a little more creative with his wordplay. The end result was nothing short of an underground classic.

The two continued to collaborate on music as Coach extended his hand to introduce Confession into his ever-growing camp of artists. Continuously pushing their own abilities, the duo started experimenting with R&B style hooks and songs. One session of music and alcohol in particular began as a goof hook about chicken and biscuits and ended in the swoon music "I'm On a Mission" that definitely helf the ladies' attention. Rocking shows in the Arizona area, the two continued their collaborative efforts soon to find they've collected more than enough pieces of work to release an official CD.

Death... Rebirth

Somewhere along the way, members of the collective began following their own aspirations. Many turned into few, shows turned into sessions at home, but the fire never died for the remaining. Continuing the journey that once sparked their young interest, Confession and Coach adopted a new moniker to signify their climb from rookie to veteran. Desert Reign Productions; the official home for the rebirth. Given the title and ever-present collaborating, it's only fitting the pair official combined forces and labeled themselves Common Heirs.

Beats and hooks came in mass production. Most weekends were full of recording sessions that lasted well into the night. The first release from the group came in the form of a free download on their website; Common Heirs: Chance of Showers. The 11-track release was soon to be followed by the instrumental mixtapes by the Desert Reign conglomerate entitled Mental Picture and Strictly Samples, further proving their unyielding press forward.

Years In The Making

Several albums and mixtapes have been released by the group, but under their solo ventures respectively. It's not that the content isn't there. It's just a matter of when. Common Heirs has long been working on projects across the board from solo to group and in-house to out. The awaited album by the group entitled Common Heirs: Desert Reign is undoubtedly in progress. Given the track record of these lyrical monsters, I'm positive the release won't disappoint. As we wait for the official debut album, the duo continues to keep things moving in a forward fashion. Still experimenting, still pushing their limmits. Still making music with a message.
